This machine doesn’t have two wheels, in fact, it doesn’t have any wheels, but EEMC is loving the BlackFly “the world’s first ultralight all-electric fixed-wing vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft” – with an optional parachute!
According to Digitaltrends.com the BlackFly built in California by Opener, is a ‘single-seat aircraft (or car, depending on how you slice it)’. It has zero-emissions and does not require a pilot’s license, nor any “special skills” to fly it! However, CEO Marcus Leng says, ‘BlackFly operators will be required to complete the FAA Private Pilot written exam, as well as company-mandated vehicle familiarisation and operator training’ that’s reassuring.
The BlackFly will travel a distance of up to 25 miles, reaching a top speed of 62 miles per hour and boasts a Super Charging option that will take less than 30 minutes to re-charge! This clever machine also has a geofence option, so it will fly within a predetermined area, so no need to stop and ask for directions! As a failsafe they also have an automatic return-to-home button (we’re loving this) AND if all else fails a parachute option is available!
Director, Alan Eustace speaking on behalf of Opener says ‘The dream of flight, which was so difficult and expensive to obtain will soon be within the reach of millions. Opener is putting the fun back into flying and opening up a new world of possibilities’
Now, if you’re considering putting the BlackFly on your Christmas list, it should set you back the equivalent of a sports utility vehicle, so get saving!
